Dale & Debbie Part 54 - Alabama's Gulf Coast

23rd Jan 2025

Gulf Coast Highlights:

Beaches, Blue Angels, and Buc-ee’s!

Our Gulf Coast adventure took us to Foley, AL, with a ferry ride to Dauphin Island, bike rides at Gulf State Park, and a stop in Pensacola to see the Blue Angels. Though weather cut their show short, Dale caught great photos the next day! We also visited Buc-ee’s—an unforgettable stop known for its massive size, tasty snacks, and spotless bathrooms. Read on for all the details!

After our time in Florida, we headed to Foley, Alabama. We took the ferry to Daulphin Island and crossed the bridge on our return. I read there are more than 1800 active oil platforms in the Gulf!

Driving through Mobile, AL

The Blue Angels are based in Pensacola for half of the year. Their practice sessions are open to the public so we drove down to see them one day. It was not a good weather day as you can see in the photo below, but the clouds just continued to get worse by the minute. They ended up starting their low-flying show, but soon had to stop so we didn’t get to see much that day. We visited the National Naval Aviation Museum afterward.

We decided to go back the next day and meet up with Henry and Barb as they were staying not too far away. It was a gorgeous day, but I had a horrible headache so Dale went without me. I wasn’t too upset as we had seen them perform in Milwaukee over Lake Michigan about five years ago. Dale took some awesome pictures!

We had one good beach day and a few not so good!

Gulf State Park is a great place for riding bikes!

Buc-ee’s likes to break its own records as the world’s largest convenience store. Currently, the largest is in Luling, TX with 75,000+ square feet. Buc-ee’s also holds the world record for the longest car wash at 255 feet! They began in 1982 in Texas and have expanded to several other states. They are known for their beef jerkey, chopped brisket sandwiches, spotless bathrooms, and numerous gas pumps. Each location has approximately 100 pumps that are constantly in use! It’s crazy how many people go out of their way to stop at Buc-ee’s! And for your convenience, they are open 24 hours 365 days a year. Search one out for a unique experience!

Until next time,
Debbie & Dale
