When you think of Vegas you don’t think of fresh seafood, but if you visit Crab Corner Maryland Seafood House just a few miles off the strip, you will get some of the freshest and best seafood anywhere in the country! We found a gem a few years ago when we met up with some friends in Vegas. By the way…a good place to stay in that area is the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort. We were looking for a place to have dinner when we came across the Crab Corner. That immediately caught our attention since we all enjoy seafood. Now let me also say that I was born and raised in Maryland and LOVE Chesapeake Bay blue crabs and Maryland style crab cakes! When we read that it was an authentic Maryland Style Crab House we knew we had to give it a try. And believe me when I say it did not disappoint! When the Smolen brothers moved to Vegas they immediately noticed there was a lack of East Coast flavor for all the transplanted residents so they opened the Crab Corner in 2010, and it was an instant hit. They fly fresh seafood in daily from the Chesapeake Bay including blue crabs and oysters (Dale’s favorite). They also fly in Gulf shrimp, Main lobster, Alaskan King crab legs, sweet snow crab clusters from Canada and more! They have a very extensive menu. Now back to our experience at the Crab Corner. We arrived to find all the decor was everything Maryland ~ they are big Raven fans! I instantly felt right at home. I ordered the MD style crab cakes and they were absolutely delicious! I also had the homemade Maryland red crab soup which was excellent. And their hushpuppies were scrumptious. Plus they serve boardwalk style fries just like you get on the boardwalk in Ocean City, and you can put as much Old Bay on them as you like. This place was right up my alley! All four of us had great dinners. Dale really enjoyed the breaded fried oysters! It’s making my mouth water just thinking about this restaurant! By the way…we thought they were reasonably priced especially considering all of the seafood they have flown in. I will also add that I am a pescatarian, which basically means vegetarians that also eat fish and seafood. It’s very hard to get decent seafood unless you are near one of the coasts so this was truly a great find for me. Many restaurants across the country put Maryland style crab cakes on their menus. I get excited when I see them, but I’m always disappointed after ordering them. Each time I tell Dale that I need to teach them how to make Maryland style crab cakes! Then he always asks me why I even order them. My usual response is maybe I’ll get lucky and they really will be Maryland style. We’ve had that conversation several times since we became full-timers! So finding the Crab Corner was even more special for me. We have not been back to Vegas since our discovery, although we had a stop planned for May. But when we changed our Spring and Summer plans due to Covid, that fell thru. Shucks, I had been looking forward to another dinner at the Crab Corner! Hopefully, it will happen in the future. So if you like seafood and you are in Vegas, don’t forget to give them a try! |
